Kris Robinson
Kris Merlo Robinson has choreographed over a thousand floor routines and hundreds of balance beam routines, including routines for multiple national champions. A former elite gymnast, Robinson recognizes the drive and determination woven into the very fabric of artistic women athletes. As a competitor herself, Robinson was an elite that competed in the all around at the national level and USA National Championships. Robinson’s gymnastics career ended in 1982 when she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Since then, Robinson’s life path has been to help other artistic athletes and performers take care of their bodies to avoid painful, career-ending injuries.
She has worked with gymnasts of all ages, from the Junior Olympics to collegiate and elite competitors. Her four-year experience as a Level 10 judge, extensive dance background, and years of high level tumbling, help her prepare daring and dazzling programs that consistently earn high marks. Robinson works with the Men’s Gymnastics Program on posture, muscle balance, and injury prevention education, along with presentation technique. She has worked with beginning-level boys, USA National Team members, Olympians, and World Championship Teams.
Along with her competitive spirit, Robinson is a licensed physical therapist in Florida. In that capacity, Robinson designed and implemented posture and muscle fitness programs to prevent injuries and rehabilitate artistic athletes and performers. Since 1990, Robinson has been a clinician for the USA Gymnastics Congress. In 2003, Robinson volunteered as the Medical Director of the World Gymnastics Championships practice facility. Since 1996, Robinson has been honored to hold the designation of Guest Clinician at the Olympic Training Center.
Robinson is known to many as The Posture Lady, a named coined to her in the nineties. She offers gymnasts the reassurance of knowing their bodies are physically fit. Her services include “head-to-toe” checks of muscle length and strength, an evaluation of range of motion and muscle endurance, and suggested exercise and posture recommendations that are individualized to meet the gymnast’s fitness needs. Gymnasts (and coaches) from all over the world “straighten up” when they see her.
Today Robinson is a consultant, national and international writer, presenter and teacher. She has traveled to 49 states and many cities in Canada to participate in multiple facets of women’s gymnastics. Robinson has penned over seventy articles for the United States Elite Coaches Association, USA Gymnastics, and International Gymnastics Magazine. Robinson has given 175 posture-related presentations to date across the nation.
