Dan Connelly

Currently the Head Women’s Gymnastic Coach at Division I Bowling Green State University, Dan Connelly has been an influential leader in the gymnastic community as an athlete, coach, judge and clinician for over 40 years. He is highly sought after for his creative solutions for training and competitive athletes, club and University programs, and his wealth of technical knowledge. He is recognized as one of the most knowledgeable coaches in both men’s and women’s gymnastics in the world.

After a highly successful High School, College and International competitive career, Connelly did a brief stint as Head Men’s Gymnastics Coach at Los Angeles City College before being recruited for the Head Men’s Gymnastics Coach at California State University at Northridge for five years. During that time he developed 25 Division II All American, one National Champion and one Division I All American. After a successful College coaching experience, he decided to enter the private sector and opened his own gymnastics club so that he could be more influential in the development of young gymnasts.

His decision proved productive for USA gymnastics as he developed and coached numerous Junior, Senior and future NCAA National Champions. He coached several Junior and Senior National Team Members and was the coach for three USA Olympians. He was USA Junior National Team coach for 10 years which gave him the ability to work with more athletes and their coaches at the national level. He served as the USA national program assistant technical director for three years as well as the USGF Men’s Program Committee and the Jr. Olympic Board of Directors.

Connelly returned to the college coaching ranks in 1995 at Division I Stanford University as the assistant women’s gymnastic coach. During his one season there, Stanford qualified to the NCAA Championships and finished 9th. Dan was then recruited to his current position as Head Women’s Gymnastic Coach at Bowling Green State University. There he has continued to produce several Midwest America Conference (MAC) Champions, a regional champion, and a NCAA National Champion. Dan has been named MAC coach of the year three times in this highly competitive conference.

Dan holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Education, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Physical Education. He has published many articles for several gymnastics publications and has been a frequent clinician at both regional and national congresses.
